Welcome to my Humes 25-26 Portfolio!
In the banner above you will see a quick visual introduction to the spaces that inspire my research, fuel my passions, and have formed me into who I am today. As you move through this digital space, please keep the following guiding quote in mind (or as Dr. Wills would say, in your rat brain).
Throughout Humes, my understanding of Justice has been continuously challenged. Everything from watching “Justice at Nuremburg,” reading Dante’s “Inferno,” and listening to panels about creative placemaking as cultural justice has slowly built up my capacity to understand the roles that perspectives play in defining what justice is. But how did we determine which articles, films, and poems should take up space in our syllabus? What about space in our conversations or space in our schedules as we prioritize Humes assignments?
Who do we allow to take up space? Whose voices get a platform while others must scream to be heard from beneath? Carl Sagan’s quote, “Across the sea of space, the stars are other suns. We have traveled this way before, and there is much to be learned” serves as the forefront of this portfolio. One person’s sun could be viewed as one of the millions of stars in space to someone else, but that does not mean it is any less important. In the same way, different perspectives about justice and injustices are equally as important. There is plenty of room in space for more than one sun.
The contents of this portfolio are all contained within the top navigation bar. The first tab holds my definition of justice and my research paper. The second tab holds my fall and spring Key Terms. The third tab, “Revised Writing Assignments,” has writing assignments #1-3 along with campus commentaries #1-4. The fourth tab has my “Something News.” The last tab holds my expanded annotations. The creation of this portfolio could not have happened without the instruction and guidance of each Humes Professor, my AT leaders Davis and Saja, my AT group partners, Dr. Bory’s, Dr. Wills’, Dr. Corso-Esquival’s, and Dr. Lipsker’s sections, the thoughtful discussions with my classmates in and outside of the classroom setting, Leah Duncan for teaching each of us how to use WordPress, my peer’s comments and responses in class, and without the prior planning of each professor in making the course syllabus. I am thankful to each person who has encouraged me to take up space Humes and understand that justice holds space in different ways.
